GASOC International Conference 2025
ABSTRACT FIRST PRESENTED: 24.10.2025
Audit Of Letz Procedure
Chameli Subbaraj Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation, Basildon, United Kingdom
Background: The NHSCSP guidelines state that the proportion of women managed as outpatients with local analgesia should be at least 85%, with an achievable target of 90%. The depth of excision > 7 mm to be attained in 95% cases. When excision is used, at least 80% of cases should have the specimen removed as a single piece.
Aim: The aim of this audit is to determine our performance against national standards.
Methods: This was a retrospective audit for the time period 01/04/2024 to 30/06/2024. The QA visit dataset in Cyres Cinergy was used to generate the list of patients who underwent LLETZ. All cases were checked on the electronic medical records to determine the method of anaesthesia . The histopathology reports scanned onto the electronic medical records were checked for depth of excision and the number of pieces
Results: See image in online version
Discussion: The unit performed well with reference to the standards in anesthesia and excision as a single specimen.
The performance against the excisional depth standard requires further improvement. This is always challenging as cervical anatomy and shrinkage of specimen in formalin may result in shorter depths than expected.
Recommendations: The Lead Clinician will remind all clinicians about the need to improve performance against the depth of excision and specimen removed in single piece standard. Re-audit in one year.
