About this conference:
The 5th International Congress on Innovations for Global Surgery (ICIGS 2027) will be held alongside the 21st ASOU Annual Scientific Conference and Surgical Landscape Exhibition from 23–25 March 2027 in Kampala, Uganda. This international congress will bring together multidisciplinary stakeholders to address global surgical challenges and explore innovative technologies that can enhance equitable access to high-quality surgical, obstetric, trauma and anaesthesia (SOTA) care in Africa.
Building on the success of previous ICIGS meetings held in India (2022), Kenya (2023), South Africa (2024) and Malawi (2025), ICIGS 2027 aims to further strengthen regional and international collaboration in advancing surgical innovation, education and equitable healthcare delivery across Africa. The 2027 theme is: “Advancing Surgical Equity and Innovation in Africa.”
The congress will highlight innovations in global surgery, promote collaborative efforts and integrate interdisciplinary specialties to advance and share best practices. The meeting will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building and strategic dialogue among clinicians, researchers, engineers, policymakers, industry leaders and global health stakeholders. ICIGS 2027 will be hosted by the Association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU), in partnership with Makerere University and the Institute of Global Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
